SYNOPSIS
This is the story of the development of penicillin by Howard Florey, who brought a new approach to research when he became Chair of the Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford.
His team of brilliant scientists headed by the German émigré Ernst Chain and Norma Heatley struggled to find a pharmaceutical company to manufacture the drug. Eventually the war government gets behind the drug but the credit goes to Alexander Fleming. The Americans then patented it and so the Dunn School had to pay to use it!
